Single Team Restriction Rule Lifted

For the 2023 Collegiate Design Series season, teams may register a second vehicle to compete.

For universities that have the resources, having a second team is an excellent opportunity for underclassmen to gain valuable experience early on in their involvement with the program. The second vehicle would be participating as a new and separate team; student team members would be restricted to participating on only one team. The second vehicle team would be responsible for meeting all document submissions and participating in all events, including those hosted virtually.

SAE is issuing a rules addendum via this news post to lift the imposed restriction limiting teams to one vehicle per Rule 1.10 Aircraft Classification/Duplicate Aircraft for the 2022-2023 competition calendar. This addendum applies only to the 2022 – 2023 academic year. If this opportunity is to expand beyond the 2022-2023 CDS season, the change will be noted in future competition rules.

Registration will open for second vehicles on Monday, November 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM EST.
Registration will close for all teams on December 1, 2023, at 11:59 PM EST.
Payment or proof of payment is still required within 72 hours of registration or risk being removed.

Competition location registration limits will remain as posted at 75 teams. Second vehicle teams have opportunities to register for OPEN competitions; however, second vehicle teams may also select to add their team to waitlist of sold out competitions.
